Adirondack Coast Free Museum Day Schedule June 1-2, 2013
For the 6th year, the Adirondack Coast Cultural
Alliance (ACCA) and Press Republican have pulled together a free passport to 14
participating museums, cultural centers and historical societies for the first
weekend in June.
Make sure to ask about the ACCA Passport. Though this
weekend offers free admission, each passport can be used to collect the
necessary stamps from each venue throughout the summer. Participants must
collect one stamp from each venue by September 12, 2013 in order to be eligible
for prizes from Ausable Chasm, Titus Mountain, Parker Family Maple Farm and
more.

This exhibit tells the story of what was happening not only in our nation, but in the Champlain Valley for the two years preceding the Battle of Plattsburgh on September 11, 1814.
Special Activities:
· Visit with John Quincy Adams and learn more about the Treaty of Ghent
· Visit with Thomas McDonough and learn more about the ship the Saratoga.
· Children can design a soldiers journal, a period flag, and make a soldiers drum.
· Blacksmith Demonstration by local blacksmith, Lance Falcon.
· Children can visit a variety of rabbits owned by the Valley Forge Rabbitry/Veronika Falcon.

The enormity of the Civil War is evident in the exhibit of images, recruiting posters, and roster of over 2,000 local men enrolling through or resident of Plattsburgh from a total population of some 6,700 in 1860. The exhibit is believed to be the most accurate list of our men, including those from the Village of Plattsburgh (the City was not formed until later in 1902). Civil War films will be shown at 10AM and 2PM.

EXHIBITIONS: The museum features 3 floors of exhibit space with 8 galleries and display areas. Our newest exhibit is Peru’s Busy Past, co-curated by the Town of Peru Historians, Ron and Carol
Allen. The Museum also features exhibits on the Civil War, Famous Clinton County Pioneers’, Fashions, Musical Instruments, Artwork, Valcour Light House, Tourism and much more.
RESEARCH LIBRARY: Schedule an appointment to research that one topic you been interested in for years. Our library and subject files feature over 1,000 easy to access, books, documents and photographs.
BOOKSTORE: Our bookstore features more than 300 local history books.
COLLECTION ACQUISITIONS: Ask our staff about our acquisitions procedures. Our permanent collection includes over 10,000 textiles, documents, photographs, paintings, advertisements, scrapbooks, glassware, antiques and other Clinton County memorabilia. If you have a piece of Clinton County history that you would like preserved for future generations, our Director and Staff are trained in archival and preservation methods.
Other Special Guests: Town of Peru Historians will be at CCHA both days to accompany our newest exhibit Peru’s
Busy Past and will be available to answer your questions about the history of Peru.

10am till 4pm: Bob Garrow, author of the "Only Game in Town", will be present to "Talk Baseball" and to sign his books.
The Museum will be opening a new exhibit entitled, "Sports in the Mountains". On display will be a large collection of sport photos and memorabilia including the bobsled, "Iron Shoes".
North Star Underground Railroad Museum
June 1 & 2 – Celebrations include historical re-enactors and Mini-Bus Tours of Underground Railroad sites in Keeseville and Peru. Museum tours are free and the museum is open from 9 am to 4 pm each day, located at 1131 Mace Chasm Rd., Ausable Chasm, NY 12911. The bus tour ($10 per person) boards at 9:30 am sharp from the museum and runs to 11:30 both Saturday and Sunday mornings. Reservations for bus tour required. June 1 – The Civil War in Northern New York. New York State Historian Robert Weible will speak on the Civil War in northern New York, including the role of abolitionists. Mr. Weible will also highlight the NYS Museum Civil War Exhibit, which features the crucial abolitionist role leading up to the Civil War, in the North Country and elsewhere. 7:00 pm, Adirondack Architectural Heritage, 1745 Main St., Keeseville. A New York State Path Through History Weekend event sponsored by the North Country Underground Railroad Historical Society, the Essex County Historical Society, and the Clinton County Historical Association. The museum will be hosting an open house to view the interior and our irreplaceable artifacts, while also featuring the new 2013 Exhibit: “Husband- Preacher-Inventor- Patriot.” The exhibit explores Frank Hall’s life during the Civil War as a chaplain, and also his philanthropic contributions to Clinton County. Come learn about William and Alice Miner and their farm at Miner Institute’s Heart’s Delight Farm Heritage Exhibit. The Heritage Exhibit includes railroad gear and patents designed by William Miner, a diorama and artifacts from Heart’s Delight Farm, and beautifully restored photographs and informative panels outlining the many contributions this wealthy couple bestowed on the region. The Coach House features vehicles once used on the farm. The exhibit itself is housed in the original storehouse which was built in 1905. A new exhibit for the 2013 season highlights the philanthropies of William and Alice Miner.
