Lake Placid for Kids: Indoor/Rainy Day Activity? Try Rock Climbing

By Diane Chase High Peaks Cycler y offers inside rock climbing as in intro to the great outdoors or just a means to practice. We find it a great (inexpensive) way to release pent-up energy on a rainy/snowy day around Lake Placid, Wilmington or the rest of the Adirondack High Peaks.  Rules are simple 1) All climbers must be 5 years or older 2) all climbers must complete a Waiver and Release form at least once a year 3) All climbers must sign into the Climbing Wall prior to climbing 4) All climbers must alert staff of the presence/departure. All participants must pay a fee OR show staff their card prior to use 5) Climbers under the age of 1 must have the Waiver/Release form signed by a parent or legal guardian 6) A minimum of one spotter per climber when bouldering 7) No hard soled or lug shoes are permitted. Climbing shoes or bare feet only 8) Approved climbing gear only 9) The belayer must pay attention to the climber at all times by keeping eye contact on him/her 10) No horseplay

Last Spring Maple Festivals in Adirondacks: Hadley and Willsboro

By Diane Chase For those that want to extend the maple season, Pok-O-MacCready in Willsboro will hold its “Last Drop” Pancake Breakfast ($6/adults, $5 (kids 12 and under) $6/seniors) from 8:00 a.m. – noon on April 30th. This event features homemade maple syrup collected and made right at the   Pok-O-MacCready Outdoor Education Center.   Further south in the Hadley/Lake Luzerne area the whole community is coming together for the 7 th   annual Maple in April Festival. On Friday, April 29 th   the event will kick off with a cooking contest in which all entries have to contain maple in the recipe. map of Rockwell Street events in Hadley There are plenty of family-friendly events happening on April 30th. Save the date: May 7, 2011  North Country School in Lake Placid hosts a beautiful community pancake breakfast with tours of the school facility. Come see this progressive school that focuses on art in education, farm school techniques, greenhouse, garden. See the horses and other livestock. Last year there were even tours of available of the latest green buildings!

Adirondack Senior Outing Club: Open to all 55+ looking to enjoy outdoors!

The Will Rogers Senior Outing Club April event will take place at the Ausable Wildlife Management Marsh departing Will Rogers on April 26 at 9:00 a.m. Come walk, bird watch, view the scenery and discover other animals in their natural habitat. The Ausable Wildlife Management Marsh is located on 660 acres in Peru, NY along Lake Champlain.  A one-mile foot trail is available for walking and will guide walkers through the marsh.
