Long Lake Winter Carnival Schedule of Events

This year’s event kicks off with the Snowmobile Parade and the coronation of the King and Queen of Winter Carnival followed by the Cardboard Box Sled Races. 

“Kid’s of all ages have a blast” says Long Lake Diner Owner and event organizer Jim Piraino. “Everyone really looks forward to the Broomball tournament and my wife is the defending champ of the Ladies Frying Pan Toss, so it’s going to be a competitive year.”

Schedule of Events January 14, Saturday

Visitors swarm Long Lake flocking from as far as Michigan, New Jersey, Hawaii and Maine. “It’s tradition, it’s cold and everyone enjoys the celebration of the day. Enjoy free ice skating and free town transportation in the evening around Long Lake. The bus runs from 5pm until 1am. Call 518-354-1510 and it will pick you up at your home and return you when you are ready. FREE.

*A bonfire will start around 10:00 a.m. near the sledding hill and behind the Geiger Arena where all the events take place.


noon – Snowmobile Parade with Long Lake Winter Carnival King and Queen
12:15pm – Coronation
12:45pm – Cardboard Sled Race
1:15pm – 1/2 Court Shot Basketball
1:45pm – Fireman’s Relay for all ages
2:00pm – Kid’s Balloon Chase
2:15pm Adult Golf
3:15pm – Ladies Frying Pan Toss
4:00pm – Goalie’s Day Off Puck Shot
4:30pm – Broomball Tournament
between 6:30pm – 7pm. Fireworks after Broomball

Enjoy these simple plans for this simple bench that provides a perfect place to observe the natural world.  C onsidered by many as the father of wildlife management and of the United States’ wilderness system, Aldo Leopold was a conservationist, forester, philosopher, educator, writer, and outdoor enthusiast . “That land is a community is the basic concept off ecology, but that land is to be loved and respected is an extension of ethics.” Though his book, The Sand County Almanac is a must read, it may be something that can wait for anyone with very young children. For everyone else, it's a wonderful example of nature writing that is a timeless connection to the land. My family first made our first  "Leopold Bench" as a group effort at the Aldo celebration at the A dirondack Interpretive Center in Newcomb, NY. It remains one our most comfortable outdoor benches. Adirondack Treats: Make Your Own Mirror Lake Inn Chocolate Chip Cookies (recipe)

Mirror Lake Inn Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe Back by popular demand! My favorite cookie recipe!    *reprinted with permission Mirror Lake Inn Chocolate Chip Cookies , Lake Placid, N.Y. Mix until light and fluffy 2 cups butter 2 cups sugar 1 cup brown sugar Blend and add to sugar mixture:  4 eggs Add: 4 tsp. vanilla 4 cups flour 3 tsp. salt 2 tsp. baking soda 4 cups chocolate chips 2 cups broken walnuts (I omit) Drop onto greased cookie sheet and bake at 350 for 8 minutes. Yields 4 dozen. Tip: I whip up a batch and keep the dough in the refrigerator and bake a few cookies at a time! Enjoy! *if you stay at the Inn you get complimentary afternoon tea and chocolate chip cookies daily. If not, you can make your own and pretend!
