Adirondack Bowling: Saranac Lanes

Bowling for Prizes

I have never thought about bowling as something to do on the fly, go in for a quick game and leave. In my experience it has always been on outing. Romano’s Saranac Lanes has changed my opinion with all the various activities they have going on for children.

Anyone wondering what to do with their children during school closings (snow days, conference days) may want to rethink bowling as an option where the special is $5.00 for two games and $1.00 for shoes. Though I am a huge fan of manual labor on school closings, I am sure my children would prefer to bowl. That said, there is also after school bowling from 3:00 -5:00 for the same $6.

As far as my daughter is concerned bowling is all about the shoes. She does not care about the score on the screen or that her brother fist pumps with each pin down. She is there to see and be seen. Once again Romano’s Saranac Lanes has generously offered to hold another fundraiser. Twenty-four teams of five can sign up for the Northern Lights School (NLS) annual Bowl-A-Thon for Saturday, November 21 to support the music program of the Waldorf-initiative school. Time slots are 1:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Prizes, including gift certificates to the Lake View Deli, Bean-to and gifts for the NLS store, will be given for all the highest children’s score in two age categories (3-6) and (7-12) and for the adults as well for overall top scoring male, female and highest team. The $20 fee includes three games of bowling and the shoes. They had my daughter at the shoes.

If you can’t make it to the Northern Lights Bowl-A-Thon there is still time to get children signed up for the Saranac Lanes Youth League. There will be a morning and afternoon time slot that will include instruction.

Romano’s Saranac Lanes, an eight-lane bowling alley has automatic scoring and bumpers. Each player can choose if he/she wants bumpers or not. This allows even the most inexperienced player to get a feel for the game without being constantly defeated by a gutter ball.

Available for parties and events, Romano’s Saranac Lanes is located at 11 Bloomingdale Ave. Please call 891-8301 for hours of operation and other fun specials like the Family Fun Pack (Bowl two games, pizza and pitcher of soft drink for $10/pp) To sign up for the Northern Lights event by calling the school at 891-3206.
