Five Adirondack Corn Mazes: Daytime Twist and Turns or Flashlight and Fright Nights

A different view from the Great Adirondack Corn Maze

This weekend seems to be the Adirondack kick-off for all things spooky. For my household of scaredy-cats, I look for a range of events that my Adirondack family can enjoy a thrilling adventure without the need to co-sleep.

One activity that seems to hold the attention of every age is a trip to the corn maze. Getting lost through those corn stalk twists and turns provides hours of fun. Day or night, an Adirondack corn maze can provide hours or fun for all ages.

Now with Halloween around the corner these various locations are upping the thrills with evening scares and flashlight nights. Here are a few of my family’s favorite spots.

In the Adirondack High Peaks is the Great Adirondack Corn Maze in Gabriels. It's open from Thursday to Sunday from noon to dusk through the end of October. Special flashlight nights on Friday and Saturday have the corn maze open for evening hours.  On October 27, Tuckers Farm’s annual Fright Night at The Great Adirondack Corn Maze is perfect for those thrill seekers and ghost hunters. Fright Night will have ghouls, ghosts and perhaps a zombie or two hidden in the corn to provide plenty of the thrills and chills at this annual Halloween event.

Getting lost in an Heroic Corn Maze
Toward the Adirondack Coast is Rulf’s OrchardCountry Dream Farm  and Fort Ticonderoga Heroic Maze.

Rulf's Orchard corn maze, in Peru, is open every Saturday and Sunday through Halloween from 10 am - 4 pm. There is even a special flashlight night on October 20 from 5-9 pm.

Lastly, a trip to Country Dream Farm offers daytime adventures of a corn maze, petting zoo, playground and wagon rides to the pumpkin patch. The corn maze hours are from 10 am - 5 pm. Special flashlight nights are available on October 19-20 from 6-9 pm as well as a Haunted Corn Maze on October 26 from 8-10 pm and October 27 from 7-10 pm.  Bring your own flashlight, but there will be a bonfire, drinks and snacks to help shake off any evening frights.

For a milder evening adventure, Fort Ticonderoga offers its Heroic Corn Maze on Saturdays and Sundays through October 21 from 10 am - 5 pm. There is a Kiddie Maze designed for children ages four and under while the Maze Quest is for the older participants. For an evening quest, bring a flashlight to walk the many twists and turns to find the eight hidden stations on October 26 and 27. Collect a stamp at each post to complete the hunt. Special evening admission is $10/person and open from 7-10 pm.

To the south and past Lake George is Elm's Family Farm. Located in Ballaston Spa, the fully working farm's corn maze is open on Saturdays and Sunday through October 28.  Weekday hours are from 9 am - 1 pm Wednesday through Friday (closed Monday and Tuesday). The gemstone mining, challenge course, pumpkin express, and shooting galleries are only available on the weekend. There is a Kiddie Maze as well as one a more challenging Amazing Maze
