During the third weekend in June, 17 participating museums, libraries, galleries and cultural institutions in the Plattsburgh area offer free admission to the public!

  • Take a tour of the museum, including our newly-renovated lady’s bedchamber.
  • Play historic games on the museum grounds (weather permitting).
  • Try your hand at some historic crafts and skills, such as bookbinding and writing with a quill pen.
  • Go on a museum scavenger hunt and win a prize!

  • Exhibits explore the history of Keeseville, Ausable Chasm, Clintonville, Harkness, Port Douglas, Port Kent
  • and the surrounding area.
  • New exhibits from local artists and photographs of early businesses.
  • Also available are copies of our book “AROUND KEESEVILLE” by Kyle Page and Anderson Falls Heritage Society.
  • Open regularly on Tuesdays, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Thursdays, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • Visit our new garden shed
  • Live demonstrations including wood working, hay fork, blacksmith shop, and granary
  • Farm animals including horses, miniature donkeys, and chickens
  • For the kids - shelling corn, gathering 'eggs', milking the 'cow', stage coach, and Thomas the Train rides
  • Special events include appearances by the New York State 2nd Alternate Dairy Princess and the Clinton County Dairy Princess
  • Petting zoo provided by West Chazy 4Hers

Come by the Champlain Valley Transportation Museum Weekend and explore the transportation history of the Champlain Valley. Please note that all tours for the weekend are self-guided. Staff will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.  Champlain Valley Transportation Museum will be open both days from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

*Please note that not all buildings or exhibits will be open on both days. 
Kids Station and Robotics:
  • The Kids Station will be open Saturday ONLY from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • The CVTM Robotics team will be holding an open house Saturday ONLY from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. 
CVTM New Exhibits:
  • 1915 International chain-drive truck.
  • 1929 Chevrolet touring car.

Clinton County Historical Museum 
  • ON SATURDAY - Children’s Program: Dedicated Detectors from 11 to 2 p.m. Young visitors can use metal detectors to find hidden items just inches under their feet - everything from coins to nuts and bolts and springs - who knows what else may show up?
  • EXHIBITIONS: The Museum features 3 floors of exhibit space with 6 galleries. Exhibits include Back to the Basics: Early Industries in Clinton County, which highlights the CCHA’s rare Redford Glass Collection; Clinton County’s Military Timeline; Arts & Leisure over the years; The Clinton County Suffrage Story; and The History of the Town of Clinton. The Museum also hosts popular exhibits on the Bluff Point Lighthouse and the Catholic Summer School of America, as well as an antique rifle and gun collection.
  • RESEARCH LIBRARY: Schedule an appointment to research that one topic you have been interested in for years! Our library and subject files include easy to access, books, documents and photographs.
  • GIFT SHOP: Our gift shop has the largest collection of local history books and historical prints in the area.
  • VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT: Meet with our Director to discuss new volunteer opportunities.
  • REGULAR HOURS: Open Wednesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • The Coopersville Schoolhouse of History offers self-guided tours, with volunteers available to answer questions.
  • Visit the re-created Town of Champlain District 9 one-room school that closed in 1931.
  • Join blind pup Pepper for story time at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday; noon and 3 p.m. Sunday.
  • See an exhibit of local antique bottles, with a talk set for 1 p.m. Saturday.
  • Check out exhibit on one-room schools once serving Champlain and Chazy, with talk by Gloria Ashline and Suzanne Moore, 3 p.m. Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday.

  • June 17th - opening of a new exhibit dedicated to the US Military from World War I forward. Dr. John Moravek will give his slide presentation on the history of Lyon Mountain Village and the mines at 1 p.m.
  • June 18th - Throughout the day, Tim Rounds will be on hand to reminisce about Lyon Mountain Boy Scout Troop 17.

The Strand Center for the Arts, Plattsburgh
  • Open regularly Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. through October.
  • Located at the newly renovated former Delaware and Hudson Railroad Station now owned by the Village of Rouses Point.
  • Beautiful 1889 building is now the home of railroad memorabilia and collections and exhibits of local history as well as serving as a welcome center.

Adirondack Coast Arts and History Passport
Make sure to pick up an Adirondack Coast Art and History Passport. Starting on the weekend of June 17 (FREE Museum Days) weekend, participants will be able to present their  “passport” for a stamp at each participating heritage attraction. Collect as many stamps as you can from the 17 museums and cultural centers for a chance to win some great local prizes! The passport is free and available at all participating venues as well as the North Country Chamber of Commerce/Adirondack Coast. The passport must be completed and turned in by December 1, 2017 in order to be valid for prizes.
