Summer seems to be going by so quickly. My family is moving in different directions and we barely have time to meet at the end of the day. It is that “end of day” time that I cherish. It is our time to regroup and relax with friends and find out what has unfolded in their busy day. Since being in the Adirondacks isn’t just about enjoying our hikes, walks and waterways, we also want to see familiar faces and an opportunity to unwind in a lovely outdoor setting. Here are a few of our favorites things to do around Saranac Lake.
The Third Thursday Art Walk
The Third Thursday Art Walks are such a mixture of entertainment from live music to outdoor demonstrations. The remaining dates are tonight, July 17, as well as August 21 and September 18. I enjoy the feeling of camaraderie, as the streets flood with people enjoying all aspects of art and music. In addition to other artists look for BluSeed Studios’ Peace Paper Project demonstration, part of an artist papermaking process. (Kids can sign up for a papermaking workshop that will be held the next day, July 18 at 9 am.) This weekend Saranac Lake ArtWorks has a special Studio Tour planned for July in additional to the regular September 27-28 dates. Hours are from 10 am – 5pm with over 28 artists opening their doors into their inner sanctum to share their creative process.
Wednesday Summer Concert Series: The musical lineup is impressive. If you don’t go for the music go to see all the cute babies dancing footloose and fancy free. The summer Concert Series at Berkeley Park at 7 pm lineup includes the musical talents of Roy Hurd on July 30, ClassAct on Aug 6, Celia Evans on Aug 13 and Speedy Arnold Trio on Aug 20. There is some outdoor seating with the amphitheater tiered style, but bring a blanket or chair just in case.
Enjoy a Friday Outdoor Movie Night: The film starts tomorrow, July 18, with The Iron Giant (PG) and August 29 showing of The Lego Movie (PG). Both films run from 8:30 – 10:30pm at Berkeley Green, corner of Main and Broadway.
The Saranac Lake Public Library always hosts free lectures, weekly reading programs as well as a monthly story time the third Tuesday of each month. Call 891-4190 or visit www.slfl.org.
Loon Lake Live! Is back with its free summer chamber music concert series (www.loonlakelive.org) with Family Fun Concerts scheduled for July 26 and August 2 at 10:30 am at the Saranac Lake Public Library as well as other locations such as Historic Saranac Lake’s Laboratory and the Loon Lake Jewish Center.
There is always plenty of activity on Saturdays with the Saranac Lake Farmers’ Market at Riverside Park from 9 am – 2 pm until October 11. Enjoy!
