Adirondack Calendar of Events: What to do April 29 - May 1, 2011

By Diane Chase

The Adirondack Weekend Highlights for April 29 – May 1, 2011.

Saranac Lake celebrates spring with the 1st annual Daffest in honor of the plucky little deer-resistant flower, the daffodil!

There has been severe flooding with the warmer weather and harsh rain so the DEC has issued warnings to stay off trails and waters.

The Wild Center will host its Building A Greener Adirodacks Expo and an family-friendly Green Fest on Sunday, May 1.

Remember that hiking/snowshoeing or skiing in the backcountry gets a bit tricky now. It may be time to do a few in town walks or other activities while in the Adirondacks.

Dates to keep keep track of in the High Peaks: Whiteface Gondola Rides, Disc Golf, Downhill Mountain Biking and Nature Treks open at Whiteface June 17, At the Olympic Sports Complex: The Bobsled experience opens June 4, Be A Biathlete, June 23, Cross-country Mountain Biking: May 28, while at the Olympic Jumping Complex the elevator and jumping complex opens May 20th.
